Step by step

  1. Prepare the cable opening

Bore the cable opening and smooth the cut parts before assembly.

    • Mark the hole center 6" from either side and 2 1/2" from the rear edge.
    • Clamp the top over a sacrificial backing board on a stable bench.
    • Bore the 1 1/2" cable opening with a drill and hole saw.
    • Sand the opening, exposed edges and faces with 150-grit abrasive.
  2. Attach the rear apron

Join the side panels to the rear apron to make a square, braced frame.

    • Apply a thin glue film to both apron ends.
    • Clamp the apron between the sides with their tops and rear edges flush.
    • Check the 9" clear distance between the side panels.
    • Drill clearance holes, shallow countersinks and pilot holes at the screw marks.
    • Drive 2 screws through each side into the apron.
  3. Attach the lower shelf

Fit the lower shelf between the sides to tie the base together.

    • Mark the shelf underside 3" above both side panel bottoms.
    • Apply a thin glue film to both shelf ends.
    • Clamp the shelf between the marks with its front and rear edges flush.
    • Drill clearance holes, shallow countersinks and pilot holes at the screw marks.
    • Drive 3 screws through each side into the shelf.
  4. Attach the additional shelf

Fasten the additional shelf between the sides above the existing lower shelf.

    • Mark the additional shelf underside 11" above both side panel bottoms.
    • Apply a thin glue film to both shelf ends.
    • Clamp the shelf at the marks with its front and rear edges flush with the sides.
    • Drill clearance holes, shallow countersinks and pilot holes at the screw marks.
    • Drive 3 screws through each side into the additional shelf.
  5. Attach the charging top

Center the top over the frame and screw it to both sides and the apron.

    • Apply a thin glue film to the upper edges of the frame.
    • Clamp the top with a 3/4" overhang on all four edges.
    • Drill clearance holes, shallow countersinks and pilot holes at the screw marks.
    • Drive 3 screws into each side and 2 into the rear apron.
    • Wipe away squeezed-out glue with a damp cloth.
  6. Finish the table

Smooth the assembled table and protect its exposed wood with an indoor finish.

    • Allow the glue to cure for its labeled time.
    • Sand the exposed wood lightly with 220-grit abrasive.
    • Remove sanding dust with a clean cloth.
    • Apply a clear indoor finish according to its label.
    • Allow the finish to cure fully before use.
  7. Set up the charging station

Check the table on a level indoor floor and route charging cables through the top.

    • Place the table on a level indoor floor beside the intended outlet.
    • Check for rocking with gentle pressure at each corner.
    • Route charging cables through the rear opening.
    • Arrange chargers with ventilation space around them.
    • Leave slack in the cables to prevent pulling on the table.
